Mother Hubbard spring cleans

I lead such an exciting life.

Each day I am overwhelmed by the thrills of managing the vast empire that is my home. And as the kids leave for school each morning, I am amazed by the devastation wrought on a domestic residence by two half grown members of the species. Most days I count myself lucky to have found the carpet by the time they return from their foray in to the world of education. And if, by some miracle, I’ve managed to prepare a healthy and nutritious meal by the time the warble of the Coronation Street trumpet begins, then I count that as a successful day.

Introducing Mother Hubbard

Mother Hubbard was born out of the desire to support the parish magazine at the church I attend. Our parish magazine has been around for a long time. It seems (as is so often the case) to rest on the shoulder of one or two dedicated folk. Month by month they put their heart and soul into a publication that has a readership of two church mice and a pigeon. Ok, so not really, but you get the picture.

Raising a child with Down's Syndrome

Our fourth child, Johanna, was born in March 2000. I was almost 45, so I knew I had a significant risk of having a child with Down's Syndrome. I'm a natural pessimist so I waited anxiously for the midwife to pronounce that she was "OK". Everything seemed to be normal, so I breathed a sigh of relief.

It wasn't until next day, after the doctor's round, that we were told they thought Johanna had Down's Syndrome.
